What happened with the concert?

Singer Kim Jang-hoon was scheduled to perform live on Bukgyeokryeolbido, one of the Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands in Taean, Chungnam, on the morning of October 26. According to his agency FX Solution, high waves and local weather conditions made it unsafe to dock and land, so the performance was postponed.

Why these islands matter

The Gyeokryeolbiyeol Islands, sometimes called the 'Dokdo of the West Sea,' sit about 55 km west of Aheung Port. The island group covers roughly 514,603 square meters, about 2.7 times the size of Dokdo. Seogyeokryeolbido serves as the baseline for Korea's West Sea territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, which makes it strategically important for maritime sovereignty.

Why the concert was planned

Kim organized the event to mark Dokdo Day on October 25 and to highlight the value of Korea's maritime territory. The show was also set to be livestreamed on official YouTube channels, including Chungnam TV's.

When is the retry?

Kim plans to hold the concert again in November. The new date and format have not been announced yet.

For international fans

The islands have drawn attention after reports that foreign buyers tried to acquire privately owned islets. Chungnam Governor Park Soo-hyun has called for state purchase, and the two privately owned islets are currently designated as foreign land transaction permit zones.
