What it is

A non-invasive device that focuses ultrasound energy at set depths under the skin, creating small heated points that trigger new collagen. Built-in ultrasound imaging lets the operator see the layers being treated. It is FDA-cleared for lifting and tightening specific areas and is not a replacement for a surgical facelift.

Who it’s for

Adults, typically in their 30s or older, with mild to moderate sagging of the face and neck.

How it’s done

The skin is cleansed and ultrasound gel is applied. The handpiece images the skin layers and delivers energy line by line, then the gel is removed.

Questions people ask

Is Ulthera the same as HIFU?

Ulthera (Ultherapy) is one microfocused ultrasound system with built-in imaging. Other devices sold as 'HIFU' also use focused ultrasound but differ in design, so ask which device is used.

When do results show?

Some people notice change right away, but Cleveland Clinic says full results take 3–6 months.

Does it replace a facelift?

No. Cleveland Clinic notes it suits mild to moderate laxity and is not a replacement for a surgical facelift.
