What happened?

Actress Kim Min said on MBC's I Live Alone that strangers keep coming to her home in Dongducheon, a city north of Seoul. According to the broadcast, some people drive onto her property, look at the house, and leave. She first described the problem on Radio Star two days earlier, on October 28.

The house, a roughly 90-year-old traditional Korean building, was featured on the show for its off-grid lifestyle. Kim uses a generator for power and does much of the repair work herself, which earned her the nickname "Dongducheon nature man." Kim said she has added security, but some visitors already know where she lives.

Why is this happening?

Television exposure has a way of turning a private home into a destination. Kim's case closely resembles what happened to Lee Hyo-ri and Lee Sang-soon, whose Jeju house drew so many tourists after a 2014 appearance that Lee publicly said it was not a tourist attraction. In 2018, JTBC bought the couple's house and grounds, citing privacy and security problems that went beyond what anyone had expected.

For international fans

If you want to show support for Kim Min, respecting her privacy is the most important thing. Viewers who watched I Live Alone on streaming services outside Korea should avoid sharing the exact location of her home. The episode and her comments on Radio Star are the best sources for her own account of the situation.
