What happened?
Dongshin University and the Gwangju Immigration Office, according to the university, ran two rounds of mobile fingerprint registration for international students. The first session took place on September 23 and was used by 216 students. The second took place on October 19 and was used by 88 students, for a total of 304 students.
Why was it introduced?
Foreign students must complete a foreign resident registration process to stay in Korea. The university said the aim was to ease that process and help students adjust to life in Korea from the start. Because the number of international students in the Gwangju region has grown, immigration offices have seen heavy demand for paperwork. Bringing the service to campus cut travel time and waiting times for students.
How many international students study at Dongshin University?
According to the university, 2,374 international students from 21 countries are currently enrolled. The International Education Institute offers visa and residence support, life guidance, and counseling.
What did the university say?
Park Jae-min, Dean of the International Education Institute, said the school will work closely with relevant agencies so students can study with peace of mind and settle into the local community.
For international fans
If you are a foreign student studying in Korea, check with your university's international office for registration services. Immigration offices are the authority on registration rules, so always confirm current requirements there.
