7-Eleven, operated by Korea Seven, said on October 20 that foreign tourists visiting Korea are buying more chicken at its stores. From January to September 2026, the chain's overall chicken sales rose 19% year on year, while sales to foreign customers grew 63% over the same period.
When are foreign customers buying the most?
The biggest jump came during the evening, between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. According to 7-Eleven, evening chicken sales to foreign customers rose 341%. Non-alcoholic beer sales rose 153% and highball sales rose 143% in the same window.
Why are tourists stopping by in the evening?
The company said foreign tourists often spend their days sightseeing and shopping, then stop by a convenience store on the way back to their hotel or guesthouse to pick up food and drinks.
What new product did 7-Eleven launch?
On October 9, 7-Eleven released 'Maeunkeurumbl Tongnalgae', a spicy crumble whole-wing product with a crispy texture. The company said it is expanding its chicken lineup to match the buying trends of foreign customers.
For international fans
The report reflects general shopping habits of visitors rather than any specific celebrity or event. For travelers, it suggests that 7-Eleven's fried chicken and drink combinations are a popular option for an evening meal after a day out in Korea.
