When does the Park Hae-il screening run?
The Academy Museum in Los Angeles began a special screening program on Park Hae-il on October 29, local time. According to the museum, the series runs until November 14.
Which films are being shown?
The program covers eight feature films from his two-decade career:
| Year | Film | |---|---| | 2001 | Yiki Brothers | | 2002 | Jealousy Is My Power | | 2003 | Memories of Murder | | 2010 | Moss | | 2012 | Eunyoo | | 2016 | Dear Hye-ok Princess | | 2022 | Hansan: Rising Dragon | | 2022 | Decision to Leave |
Will Park Hae-il attend?
Yes. He will meet audiences in person at three events. At the opening talk before 'Hansan: Rising Dragon,' he said it was his first visit to LA in four years since 'Decision to Leave.'
What is 'Hansan: Rising Dragon' about?
The film depicts the Battle of Hansan Island led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Park Hae-il plays Yi. He said the director's first offer seemed like a joke to him, and that he wanted to bring out Yi's scholarly, literary side, distinct from the versions by Choi Min-sik in 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' and Kim Yun-seok in 'Noryang.' According to the actor, the story moves straight through, and the final hour is almost entirely naval battle.
For international fans
The Academy Museum has previously held retrospectives for Song Kang-ho (2023) and Yuh Jung-youn (2024), and a Bong Joon-ho 'Parasite' exhibition has been on view since 2025. Park Hae-il's work has been seen widely in Korea, and this series gives overseas audiences a rare chance to watch his films on a big screen in the United States.
