What happened?
Actress Nana's home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, was broken into by an intruder in November last year. Nana subdued the man and reported him to police. According to the agency Subline, the man was sentenced to seven years in prison in June on charges including robbery causing injury at the first trial. He has since appealed.
What is the agency saying now?
In an official statement issued on October 21, Subline said the defendant still insists he did not bring a weapon into the home, despite the court ruling against him. The agency also accused him of secondary harm to the victims, saying he has sent letters to several broadcasters and media outlets claiming he is wrongly accused. Subline said it is seriously worried about possible retaliation or reoffending.
Are there counter-charges?
Yes. The man filed complaints against Nana for attempted murder and robbery causing injury. Nana filed a countersuit for false accusation. Investigators, after questioning witnesses and examining phone data, added a false-accusation charge against the defendant. The agency said the prosecutor criticized his lack of remorse during the trial.
For international fans
Nana is a Korean actress, and this case has drawn wide attention in Korean media. The appeal is still in progress, so the final outcome has not been decided. Subline asked that the artist and her family be allowed to live free of false claims and secondary harm.
