What is the campaign?

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, has launched the "Wear Hanbok Correctly" campaign. The launch ceremony took place on October 19 near Gyeonghoeru Pavilion in Gyeongbokgung Palace, with Vice Minister Kim Young-soo in attendance. The campaign aims to share the beauty and value of hanbok and promote proper wearing customs among tourists.

Who is taking part?

According to the ministry, 24 hanbok rental shops near Gyeongbokgung Palace and 17 hanbok influencers are participating. The influencers will spread information about correct hanbok wearing through social media.

What can visitors do?

Participating shops distribute a multilingual booklet called "Hanbok Story" along with QR-code guides on hanbok history, structure, and wearing methods. At Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, visitors can take part in a "Hanbok Quiz" and view exhibits on court hanbok and hanbok seen in Korean dramas.

How does the Hanbok Pass work?

| Step | What to do | |---|---| | 1 | Wear traditional hanbok correctly at a participating rental shop | | 2 | Receive a "Hanbok Pass" keepsake (noriae) | | 3 | Show the pass at partner locations for 10–20% off |

Partners include the National Museum of Korea's "Mukjis" shop (until October 25), Annyeong Insadong partners and Matyujang Anguk (both until December 31), among 27 locations in total.

For international fans

Hanbok is often seen in Korean dramas, which is one reason this exhibit highlights costume styles from screen productions. Rental shops near the palace are the easiest place to try one on. For questions, the Ministry's Traditional Culture Division can be reached at 044-203-2549.
